The discovery could give scientists a better understanding of the environments around supermassive black holes, particularly less-ravenous examples, such as the one at the heart of the Milky Way.Īdmin said:Regular high-energy pulses of gamma-ray radiation emerging from around the Milky Way's central black hole may be coming from a blob of matter whipping around at 30% the speed of light. They think this speeding lump of matter is emitting light across several wavelengths of radiation as it swirls around Sgr A*, flaring periodically as its orbit proceeds. This revelation of what the researchers call a "unique oscillatory physical mechanism" led them to conclude that both the gamma-rays and the X-rays are being emitted by a "blob" of gas that is swirling around Sgr A* at around 30% the speed of light - or around 200 million mph (320 million km/h). Universe's oldest X-ray-spitting quasar could reveal how the biggest black holes were born Supermassive black hole at the heart of the Milky Way is approaching the cosmic speed limit, dragging space-time along with it 1st black hole to be imaged is spewing 'lightsaber' energy jets larger than the Milky Way, and scientists think they know why "The coincidence of the multiwavelength periodicity in X-ray and gamma-ray points towards a single physical mechanism that produces it," the team wrote in the paper. This period of emission is half the time between pulses of X-ray radiation also seen coming from the vicinity of the Milky Way's supermassive black hole, suggesting the two emissions are in harmony and are likely related. They found that the pulses emerge from close to Sgr A* roughly once every 76.32 minutes. The duo searched the publicly available Fermi data for patterns of periodicity in the gamma-ray emissions. Using data from the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope collected between June and December 2022, the researchers aimed to discover the origin of these gamma-rays. This can't account for the gamma-rays from Sgr A*, however, as the Milky Way's black hole is surrounded by very little matter and is feeding so slowly that it would be equivalent to a human living on a diet of one grain of rice every million years, according to University of Arizona astronomer Chris Impey, who was not involved in the research. As black holes feed on this matter, the accretion disk emits light that spans the electromagnetic spectrum, from low-energy radio waves to high-energy gamma-rays. Other supermassive black holes are known to emit powerful radiation from their immediate surroundings when their gravitational influence generates turbulent conditions in surrounding gas and dust, forming a structure called an accretion disk.

The viruses rapidly spread across China and then all over the world, so on March 11 th 2020, World Health Organization (WHO) declared that COVID-19 reached pandemic levels. The genetic material of the virus was rapidly sequenced ( 2), and the transmission could not be prevented. On January, the virus responsible for the pneumonia was identified as a new coronavirus, later named severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, SARS-CoV-2, and the disease was named coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) ( 1). In December, 2019, a pneumonia of unknown origin emerged in Wuhan, China. Thus, future studies are needed to better investigate the pathophysiology of thyroid dysfunction induced by COVID-19 at both molecular and clinical levels. Although the cellular and molecular mechanisms are not completely understood, the evidence suggests that the “cytokine storm” is an important mediator in this context. Overall, the data revealed that abnormal thyroid function may occur during and in the convalescence post-COVID condition phase. In addition, thyroid disease has already been reported as a consequence of the administration of vaccines against SARS-CoV-2. Indeed, a variety of thyroid disorders have been documented in COVID-19 patients, including non-thyroidal illness syndrome (NTIS), subacute thyroiditis and thyrotoxicosis. On the other hand, retrospective observational studies, prospective studies, and case reports published in the last two years reported abnormal thyroid function related to acute SARS-CoV-2 infection or even several weeks after its resolution. However, studies show that patients with controlled hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism do not have a higher prevalence of COVID-19, nor do they have a worse prognosis when infected with the virus. Immune system cells are targets for thyroid hormones and T3 and T4 modulate specific immune responses, including cell-mediated immunity, natural killer cell activity, the antiviral action of interferon (IFN) and proliferation of T- and B-lymphocytes. In addition, thyroid gland is extremely sensitive to changes in body homeostasis and metabolism. Thyroid gland, as well as hypothalamus and pituitary, which regulate the functioning of most endocrine glands, express angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), the main protein that functions as a receptor to which SARS-CoV-2 binds to enter host cells. Despite being considered a respiratory disease, it is known that other organs and systems can be affected in COVID-19, including the thyroid gland. COVID-19 is a respiratory syndrome that can progress to acute respiratory distress syndrome, multiorgan dysfunction, and eventually death. 4Department of Biorregulation, Health Sciences Institute, Universidade Federal da Bahia, Salvador, BrazilĬoronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was characterized as a pandemic in March, 2020 by the World Health Organization.3Campus Duque de Caxias Professor Geraldo Cidade, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.2Postgraduate Program in Nutritional Sciences, Department of Nutrition, Center for Health Sciences, Universidade Federal da Paraíba, João Pessoa, Brazil.1Institute of Biophysics Carlos Chagas Filho, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.Camila Lüdke Rossetti 1† Juliana Cazarin 1† Fabio Hecht 1† Fabyan Esberard de Lima Beltrão 2 Andrea Cláudia Freitas Ferreira 1,3 Rodrigo Soares Fortunato 1 Helton Estrela Ramos 4* Denise Pires de Carvalho 1 The three films were designed to be read together and constitute a meta. The key is to create a program with multiple layers of periodization, taking the staggered approach within each workout, each week, each month, and ultimately through the duration of your program. The popular training programs developed by Joe Friel-author of The Mountain Biker's Training Bible and The Triathlete's Training Bible-present a monthly workout schedule in which the third week is the hardest of the four. As a diagram, periodization might look something like those blocky steps and valleys you see on preset treadmill programs-go hard, ease off go hardest, ease off go hard ease off. Simply alternating cardio and strength days, while important, is not enough. After all, your muscles, and the capillaries that transport blood to fuel them, grow during rest, not during exertion. By following a specifically staggered schedule you give your body a chance to regenerate enough to spring forward a few days later. Next, you need a strategy, and nothing has proven itself more effective than the concept of periodization-cyclic bouts of expansion and retrenchment designed to build fitness. You may not be after the freakish physique of a bodybuilder (if you're like me, the thought of waxing your chest gives you chills), but reams of research and fitness experts from coast to coast tout the benefits of lifting weights. (You can even improvise: milk jugs for dumbbells, a stairs, a bench, or bleachers for the plyo box.) This modest tool kit is all you need to do brief-but-intense resistance training, à la Bill Phillips's Body for Life, the best-selling exercise book that seemed to have everyone who followed it looking like Joe Piscopo in a mere 12 weeks. The Shape of Your Life requires only a few pieces of basic equipment-a bench, dumbbells, a stability ball (also called a physio or Swiss ball), a new jump rope, and a plyometric box-that shouldn't run you more than $200. Got a spare room? A basement? A backyard? Consider turning an unused space into a low-tech home gym. “When you can't make it to the gym after work, you have to have something you can do at home.” “Have a training regimen for every environment you find yourself in,” says Ed Jackowski, author of Escape Your Shape and owner of Exude Fitness in New York. Convenience-or, rather, inconvenience-is a tremendous gumption trap. Which is all well and good as long as you also have some solid infrastructure that will accommodate the day-to-day logistics of an ostensibly lifelong exercise plan. You'll find troubleshooting tips, but the general wisdom is this: nail down a goal and you've found the wellspring of motivation, the fountain of fit. You can take off on a surf safari with dignity intact, run a half-marathon with your spouse and not seek couples counseling afterward, or ski black-diamond runs, fast, without sacrificing an ACL to the cause. Getting in shape is nothing more-and nothing less-than a means to an end. Better reasons include the intrinsic value of exercise: how it can help stave off disease how it stimulates the brain's production of serotonin, a natural mood-booster how it keeps energy up and blood pressure and appetite down.īut the real answer is more simple and obvious. Why get fit in the first place? What's the point? There are the superficial reasons. This begins with some rigorous introspection. There's plenty of research focused on helping elite athletes optimize, and stick with, their training, but what most of us need is advice on how to fold fitness into a life not sponsored by a power drink. Subsequent months won't increase the duration of your workouts, but will ramp up the intensity and vary the exercises. You'll also steadily increase your time commitment from about 30 minutes to an hour a day, five days a week. It's the easiest month in terms of sheer volume, intensity, and complexity of the exercises, but it's essential because our endurance prescription is designed to get you in the habit of working out regularly, establish your baseline, and identify fitness goals. The first month, presented here, showcases endurance-both physical and motivational. The five-month Shape of Your Life program has a solution. According to the research firm American Sports Data, 60 percent of Americans say exercise is good, yet they never exercise. Everyone seems to have a vague idea about what they need to do to get in shape, and stay in shape, but that doesn't mean they know what to do about it. A sustainable approach to exercise is tricky business because when it comes to fitness, we are all pilgrims stumbling toward the light. Nearly a century later, Man with a Movie Camera remains one of the most innovative films when it comes to editing and how it creates meaning. The next shot shows a different couple signing divorce papers at the same place. For example, in one scene a newly married couple joyfully signs papers at a courthouse. She opens her eyes, then the film cuts to window shutters opening, then to the camera itself as the lens focuses in on flowers. Towards the beginning of the film, a woman awakens and washes her face. The Odessa Steps scene, and the famous moment when a baby in a carriage hurtles down the steps away from the dead mother, has spawned many homages including Brian de Palma’s The Untouchables (1987).ĭirected and edited by husband-and-wife team Dziga Vertov and Elizaveta Svilova, Man with a Movie Camera creates a mesmerizing portrait of a Soviet city and its inhabitants without any plot through montage editing. The impact never appears on screen, but the before and after shots, as the woman screams while blood streams down her face behind her broken glasses, edited with shots of other horror, sears in the viewer’s mind. For example, at one point the soldiers shoot a woman in the eye. Intercut shots of people fleeing, shrieking, dying, and mourning collapse time and space in a moment of shared suffering despite very little on-screen violence. This montage shows shots of different deity statues from different cultures, questioning the idea of “God,” in the phrase “For God and country.” However, the “emotional montage” in Battleship Potemkin, in which soldiers massacre unarmed civilians as they protest on the Odessa steps, lives on film history for its affective horror. His October: Ten Days That Shook the World (1928) beautifully explores what he calls “intellectual montage” (editing designed to make the viewer think, rather than feel). The main proponent of montage theory, Sergei Eisenstein, practiced what he preached in his own films. Though not a true example of montage, Dulac’s work in Madame Beudet shows the evolution of editing in narrative film and how it can be used for artistic, philosophical effect. Within the confines of the home, close up shots of things like clocks and flowers become more than details, but instead deeper signifiers of the heroine’s struggles. Even this comic inset illustrates an oppressive patriarchy. Her husband asks if she wants to attend an opera and the viewer sees Madame Beudet’s imagination of men in ridiculous costumes surrounding a woman and singing at her. Though aligning more with Impressionism and Surrealism, her films use editing to establish a character’s interiority.Ī great example of Dulac’s “proto-montage” can be found in The Smiling Madame Beudeut, a forty-minute portrait of the eponymous character in an oppressive marriage, as various shots illustrate her thoughts and feelings. This list will explore which films demonstrate the potential of montage and its effect on cinema history.Īn early feminist filmmaker, Germaine Dulac also wrote film theory and once argued that meaning happened both within and between the shots. Many filmmakers have put their own spin on the montage to marvelous effect. Described by Soviet filmmakers in the 1920s, who sought to apply their new country’s philosophy (dialecticism) to this exciting new art form of cinema, montage theory has since found its way to Hollywood and beyond. Montage Theory, the staple of college Cinema Studies classes, holds that the juxtaposition of images via editing can make meaning beyond what can be represented visually. It is not different from any other class. Int has really terrible direct damage spells, while agi has the best ( cadence being 3AP very long range and good damage ) and str is kinda inbetween but deffinately better than int. Yes int has more bomb wall damage but it's not worth it when the other 2 elements ( not including cha cause it sucks for pvm ) do enough wall damage already. I wouldn't recommend going int rogue like most people would say, but rather agi or str. Amazing in group content with a Panda ( which nearly every team has anyways ) and I can see it being decent for solo stuff aslong as the user has some above average skills. Rogue on the other hand isn't that bad like people make it out to be. I have to say I wasn't too impressed by it's PvM capabilities ( I was agi to clarify ). I recently ( yesterday ) switched to Osa to try it out properly. The other classes doesn't interest me I had them in my group many times but they're just not for me except maybe the Feca who get praised by everyone I know but it seems very expensive to build since it needs both ranged and melee build and not as much fun as the other two in my eyes. It seems the absolute best for leveling 1-200 but as I said before I have never seen it in dungeons and I have no idea what to expect there. Osamodas: My all-time favorite class but also the most mistreated by the devs, so many changes and only a handful of people that plays them makes me scary about picking it.Fire is the best element for him am I right? Rogue: I know about the nerf but I think it's still viable, I saw him doing incredible things with bombs that other classes can only dream of so it could be the best pick for hard dungeon challenges like Duo or some quest fights but I fear it might be frustrating to level alone considering that it needs time to prepare the big explosion.I'm only interested in completing all the achievements for dungeons, quests and such no PvP or farming kamas/materials and I'll probably be alone the whole time even if I'm trying to convince some friends to be my duo partner. Hello, I decided to start a new character but I'd like to hear some recommendations first because my experience with classes is still pretty limited and I'm afraid to end up with something I might regret. |
